Oregon Commission for the Blind is excited to be celebrating their Summer Work Experience Program’s 50th year in 2023!

The Oregon Commission For the Blind (OCB) is ramping up for Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP) 2023 which will be hosted at Portland State University in Portland and Willamette University in Salem.

Students who experience low vision/blindness will again connect in person and forge friendships over a shared experience that includes work, recreation, and developing independent living skills on a college campus and integrated in the community.

OCB has already kicked off SWEP with our student/family orientations. These are great opportunities for parents/guardians to meet the staff that will be supporting their students and for the students to share their goals for the summer and meet one another.

OCB/SWEP staff are have been busy developing a variety of internships based on students’ interests, from Portland Center Stage and YMCA (Portland) to Wild Things and Games and Higher Ed Coordinating Commission (Salem). Staff are also planning a variety of team building activities such as Iron Chef, a hike at Silver Creek Falls and a ropes challenge course. The three tracks (Portland, Salem, and community-based) begin in late June and run through their graduation celebrations July 29 and August 4.
