Oregon’s public universities and community colleges strongly encourage DACA students to renew their applications as soon as possible
STATEWIDE – On June 18, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled with the University of California system in Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of Univ. of California regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
The decision ensures that for the time being, the DACA program will continue. However, the court did not determine whether DACA should continue permanently, leaving that question to the presidential administration and Congress.
It is likely that the Trump administration will quickly make further attempts to curtail or end the program.
Oregon’s public universities and community colleges are strongly encouraging DACA students to consult with immigration attorneys and potentially renew their applications as soon as possible.
Further, Oregon’s public universities and community colleges urge Congress to act swiftly to ensure continued access to DACA protections for eligible individuals and avoid undue disruption in their lives. We are soon reaching a time when a college freshman will have been born too late to qualify for DACA. A comprehensive immigration solution is needed.
Students needing assistance in renewing DACA paperwork can reach out to contacts at each institution.
