Heroic effort by guard members saves 56 people.
PENDLETON — “We get to use our training to protect our community,” says Chief Warrant Officer 3 Corey Wadsworth of the Oregon Army National Guard. The group’s aviators rescued 54 people in the Pendleton flooding. When Governor Kate Brown went to survey the damage, she thanked the Oregon Army National Guard for their exceptional service, awarding the rescuers with the Oregon Meritorious Service Medal.
